Video production involves the act of video taping, the editing and the distribution of a completed video medium such as a DVD or tape. It caters to various industries and needs, including TV, film, corporations, and private events, such as weddings and anniversary parties.
The various aspects of this can be pre-production which is concerned with preparation involved before video-taping occurs. This is when the location is determined, shots may be planned out (storyboarding), the materials needed will be listed, the times of taping and, perhaps most importantly, the cost of the taping process as well as the additional processes.
Production deals with the actual taping happening -- this is when lighting, direction, cinematography, props, subject and audio all come into play and the subject is captured on video. This can be a TV show, a movie, a private film, a corporate event, or personal event such as a wedding.
Post-production is when the taping stops and everything that occurs afterwards. Footage is organized and labeled and is then edited. Audio and visual effects can them be added. Transitions are prepared to be smooth and logical and musical components can now be added.
There are various personal events where videotaping can be used, such as weddings and anniversary parties; school plays and sporting events; audition tapes and performance tapes; video portfolios. Examples are student athletes preparing footage of them engaged in sport to gain the interest of recruiters, or the actor looking to land a part on a locally or nationally broadcast television show.
It occurs on a corporate level where not just events are to be captured, but lectures and information seminars which can then be played back and broken down and analyzed. This can allow for custom training and make it cheaper since the video can be delivered to employees on a wide scale as opposed to bringing them all to one central location.
Press conferences and live news and sporting events are all delivered with this process playing part of the role. The replay in sporting events and news programs and the altering are examples. The readiness of video footage has changed dramatically with the digital process now applied to film, the production now becoming often cheaper and more accessible. Now more people, with even a basic understanding of the process, can engage in this art form and information medium.
Video production is comprised of everything that allows a video in disc or tape form to be viewed by us -- the planning, the actual taping, and the process after to perfect the finished product. It creates many employment opportunities, such as editors, audio mixers, visual effects producers and actors and news people and directors.
